Beloved Father and Grandfather

WEB Paul Alfred Liermann Jr., age 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Agrace Hospice.

Paul was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Madison, Wisconsin. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Agrace Hospice or Grace Lutheran Church.

Paul was born on June 27, 1936, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Alfred Sr. and Florence Liermann. He graduated from Madison East High School in 1954 and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a degree in civil engineering. After college, Paul served in the United States Army for two years. He then began his career as a civil engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, where he worked for over 30 years.

Paul was a dedicated and hardworking employee. He was also a passionate volunteer, serving on the boards of several local organizations. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for over 50 years, where he served in various leadership roles. Paul loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards and watching sports. He was also a lifelong learner and enjoyed reading and traveling.

Paul is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth; his children, David (Julie) Liermann and Susan (Eric) Johnson; his grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Heun, Michael (Katie) Liermann, and Emily Johnson; his great-granddaughter, Evelyn Heun; his brother, John (Mary) Liermann; and his many nieces and nephews.

Paul was a kind and compassionate man who always put others before himself. He will be remembered for his love of family, his generosity, and his infectious smile. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
